Celebrate National Library Week

To celebrate National Library Week, all locations of WCPL will have an amnesty period from April 11 through April 15 when fines will be forgiven on overdue materials.  We will also have two special giveaways at each branch, an educational gift basket for children, ages newborn through 5 years old, and an iPad Mini, for patrons six years and older.

Book Spine Poetry Contest

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Edgerton Branch Library will be doing “Book Spine Poetry” for the month of April. People can create their own poem using the spines of 4-7 books to create a poem. They can do it at the library or use books from their own collection and take a picture and email it to shanea@mywcpl.org. They just need to put Book Spine Poetry Contest in the subject line. A prize will be awarded for the top poem submitted. The Edgerton Branch Library is located at 319 N. Michigan Avenue. To learn more about the Book Spine poetry contest, please call branch manager Shanea Herman at 419-298-3230.

Brighten with Blooms

The Williams County Public Library in Bryan is once again inviting patrons who are interested to adopt a flower pot and plant it with their favorite flowers as part of the “Brighten with Blooms” effort at the library.  Or donate $20, and the library will buy and plant the flowers for you.

Plant. Harvest. Repeat.

Seed LibraryThe Williams County Public Library has started a seed library.  All locations of the library in Bryan, Edgerton, Edon, Pioneer, Stryker, West Unity and the Local History Center will have approximately 50 different seeds to choose from to start a garden.  The library is starting the seed library with mostly vegetables and herbs, but is hopeful that if this program is successful they will add more seeds every year, including more flowers.  Patrons can come in and sign out starter seed packets from any location.  The seeds are free! Those taking seeds are asked to save seeds from plants at the end of the growing season and bring them in to replenish the collection.  This will keep the seed library sustainable.
