Tail Waggin’ Tutors

The Edgerton Branch Library would like to invite area children to make an appointment to reserve their time to come and read to a visiting therapy dog. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” will be held at the library each Monday for six weeks, starting on September 17, and running through October 29.  From 3:30 to 4:30 pm, children will be able to read in 15 minute intervals to either Bekka or Rusty, Australian Terrier therapy dogs. This will be by appointment only and appointments must be made by a parent or guardian. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” will not meet on Monday, October 01.

According to the Therapy Dog International website, “The main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and ‘dog-friendly’ atmosphere, which allows students to practice the skill of reading.” This program creates excitement about reading and is a great opportunity for children to build confidence and improve their reading skills. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” enables children to read aloud in an environment where they do not feel self-conscious and at the same time, can enjoy the company of the therapy dogs. The participating dogs have their certificates from Therapy Dog International and are trained to be calm and gentle.
