Tail Waggin' Tutors

The Edgerton Branch Library would like to invite area children to make an appointment to reserve their time to come and read to a visiting therapy dog. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” will be held at the library on designated Mondays starting on March 30^th. Following meetings will be held on the Mondays of April 13^th, April 27^th, and May 11^th.  From 3:30 to 4:30 pm, children will be able to read in 15 minute intervals to Registered Therapy dogs. This will be by appointment only and appointments must be made by a parent or guardian. You must register to attend the first meeting date by Monday, March 23^rd.

According to the Therapy Dog International website, “The main objective of this program is to provide a relaxed and ‘dog-friendly’ atmosphere, which allows students to practice the skill of reading.” This program creates excitement about reading and is a great opportunity for children to build confidence and improve their reading skills. “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” enables children to read aloud in an environment where they do not feel self-conscious and at the same time, can enjoy the company of the therapy dogs. The participating dogs have their certificates from Therapy Dog International and are trained to be calm and gentle.
