A body at the foot of the stairs. A man swinging from a rope on High Street. A murder in the library.  Ghosts in the attic. A grandson poisoning his grandmother… or did he?
These mysteries and more will be discussed at The Williams County Public Library Local History Center’s WEEK OF MYSTERY AND MAYHEM. Discover some of the haunting and unsavory stories and happenings in Williams County history. Each evening a highly entertaining presentation will delve into the dark and spooky side of this corner of Ohio. The events are:
Tuesday Oct. 24, 6:30 pm. Kevin Maynerd will present a program on The Tyler Hanging, Williams County’s most notorious public execution.
Wednesday Oct. 25, 6:30 pm.  Denver Henderson will present The Strange Case of Poison, the tale of a Williams County youth who confessed he poisoned his grandmother. Or did he?
Thursday Oct. 26, 6:30 pm. Don Alison, local author of I MET A GHOST AT GETTYSBURG, will talk about his experiences with the paranormal.
Saturday Oct. 28, 6:15 pm. A LANTERN TOUR OF FOUNTAIN GROVE CEMETERY. Visit the final resting places of some of Bryan and Williams County’s prominent (and sometimes dastardly) citizens by lantern light. Presenters will be Jane Huffman and Denver Henderson.
Monday Oct 30, 6:30 pm. WCPL Library Director Jeff Yahraus will present the tragic story of Emily Abernathy, the librarian murdered in the Carnegie Building in 1946.
HALLOWEEN, Oct 31, 6:00 pm. EMILY’S STORY, the acclaimed film recounting the shocking library murder of Miss Abernathy will be shown. There will be a raffle and door prizes.
