Tax Time
The Internal Revenue Service opened the 2012 tax filing season on January 4th and announced that taxpayers have until April 17 to file their tax returns. The IRS encourages taxpayers to e-file as it is the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds. Library staff can't assist you in filling out your forms, or give you advice, but we do know where you can get the forms you need.
There are numerous free options available for you to obtain tax products, tax preparation and assistance in filing your tax returns:
- Download forms, instructions and publications.
- Visit an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC) participating library or U.S. Post Office.

The IRS announced that individual and business taxpayers will no longer receive paper income tax packages in the mail from the IRS. These packages contained the forms, schedules and instructions for filing a paper income tax return. The IRS is taking this step because of the continued growth in electronic filing and the availability of free options to taxpayers, as well as, to help reduce costs.
